의문형

다음의 의문형 문장들을 보자. What, Which, Whose 는 명사와 결합하고, How 는 형용사나 부사와 결합한다.

What sort of music do you like?
What kind of cigarettes do you smoke?
What size shoes do you take?
What color are your eyes?
Which pen do you want?
Which way is it to station?
Whose book is this?
How much do you weigh?
How many brothers and sisters have you got?
How many times have you been on a plane?
How much homework do you get every night?
How tall are you?
How often do you go to the cinema?
How long does it take you to get to school?

간접 의문문

1. 간접의문문은 평서문과 같은 어순을 가진다.

   Tom lives in Korea. -> 평서문
   I don't know where Tom lives. -> 간접의문문
   (Not! I don't know where does Tom live.)

   * 다음은 간접의문문의 예이다.

   I wonder how long the journey takes.
   I can't remember how much meat we need.
   I've no idea how much money we can spend.
   I'd like to know how I can use the computer.
   I'm not sure who bought the pen.

2. 영어에서 의문문들은 종종 간접의문문 안에 직접의문문을 사용하여 표현한다. 그것은 문장을 좀더 부드럽게 공손하게 표현하기 위함이다.

   Could you tell me what time the banks close?
   Do you know how long It takes me to get to the station?
   Do you happen to when time I should finish?
   Have you any idea which dress I should take?
