The United States has vowed to work closely with Japan for a United Nations resolution calling for sanctions on North Korea for its missile launches.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill told Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso in a meeting in Tokyo Monday that Washington actively supports Japan’s efforts to have the UN Security Council approve the resolution.

Hill and Aso also agreed on the need to promptly reopen the six-way nuclear talks in order to persuade Pyongyang from test-firing more missiles and urged China to step up efforts in inducing the North to return to the talks as host of the negotiations.
