Cha Tae-hyun, the New Prince of Trot?

Recently, the fad of trot is sweeping Korea. Before, trot was the least popular music genre enjoyed by the younger generation as many considered it boring. Korean youth usually enjoy listening to rock music, ballads, or R&B.

However, with the emergence of young trot singers like Chang Yoon-jung and Park Hyun-bin, trot has become one of their favorite new genres. With the newly gained popularity, more trot songs are being made, and recently even a trot-featured movie was born! In the movie Masked Dal-ho복면 달호, which was released on February 15, we can enjoy listening to many trot songs sung by talented actors like Cha Tae-hyun and laugh our heads off. Interestingly, the movie was directed by comedian Lee Kyung-gyu.

"My career as a singer helped me a lot in playing the role of a trot singer in this movie. I get to sing a lot, and I've created my own style of trot singing. Don't miss the chance to appreciate it!" said Cha when I asked him what was it like to sing trot songs at a VIP premier the other day. There, I also had the chance to see other high caliber celebrities including Rain, Chang Dong-gun, Hyung-young and even Cho In-sung, my favorite actor! "Lucky me!" I screamed at myself. The movie itself was hilarious, but watching it with all the big stars made it even more exciting! If you get a chance, see this charming new film. It'll have you dancing before you know it.
